Scheduling of Drills
*PLEASE NOTE* A schedule of the safety drills for the school year are due by September 15th of each school year. A scheduled drill that is not conducted on a scheduled drill day, as prescribed in the Act, will not result in a violation of the Act if the school conducts the minimum number of drills required under the Act, and if the school reschedules the drill to occur within 10 school days after the scheduled date of the canceled drill, and the chief administrator notifies the Berrien County Emergency Management Coordinator of the rescheduled date for the drill. A schedule change notification to the Berrien County Emergency Management Coordinator must be made to 269-983-7141 ext. 4975.
Provide the School year this schedule covers.
Choose your District's name from the dropdown. If you are a Charter School, please use "Other - Charter School". If you are a non-public school, please use "Other-non public school". If we inadvertently left your district off of the list, please use "Other-Not Listed".
Please type in the name of your district.
Please provide the name of the building for which the drill schedule applies to.
Physical Address (not mailing)
Please provide the expected enrollment for the following school year. If you need to estimate, provide a range (Low-High).
Point of Contact Information
Please provide information about the person who is the main point of contact for the exercises. This information is used for communication in the days leading up to the exercise date (usually through email). It also may be needed on the date of the exercise to communicate on matters of "last minute" (cell phone tends to be best). This could include reasons for considering the cancellation of the exercise (ie. real circumstances/threat may lead to confusion and unneeded fear).
The Act requires a minimum of 5 fire drills for each school building, per year, for a school that operates any grades of kindergarten to 12. Three of the fire drills shall be held by December 1 of the school year, and 2 shall be held during the remaining part of the school year, with a reasonable spacing interval between each drill.
Provide any information you believe we should know. (i.e. Rain Dates, First Responder Meeting Location, unusual method of conducting the drill. etc.)
TORNADO/SEVERE WEATHER DRILLS
The Act requires a minimum of 2 tornado safety drills for each school building, per year for a school that operates any grades of kindergarten to 12. At least 1 of the tornado safety drills shall be conducted during March of the school year.
The Act requires a minimum of 3 drills for each school building, per year in which the occupants are restricted to the interior of the building and the building secured, at a school that operates any grades of kindergarten to 12. At least 1 of these drills shall be conducted by December 1 of the school year, and at least 1 shall be conducted after January 1 of the school year, with a reasonable spacing interval between each drill. A drill conducted under the Act shall include security measures that are appropriate to an emergency such as the release of a hazardous material or the presence of a potentially dangerous individual on or near the premises.
The Act requires at least 1 of the drills shall be conducted during a lunch, recess period, or at another time when a significant number of the students are gathered but not in the classroom.
The drill types are Outside Threat, Inside Threat and Shelter in Place.
Please indicate the drill type by selecting ALL that apply (an outside threat lockdown drill can be conducted with students gathered in cafeteria - both outside threat and gathered in non-classroom should be check-marked)
